Apache Junction High School will be hosting the first High School Strength and Conditioning Coaches Clinic on July 19th. Topics to be cover are Olympic lifts, Program design, Speed development, Building a progam on a small budget, equipment safety, Work capacity, Velocity. We will have coaches from ASU, NAU, SCC, USA Weightlifting, F.A.S.T., and Velocity. The purpose of this clinic is to inform and educate. Refistration will begin at 8AM. I have sent emails out to all AZ schools and their ADS about the location change. This will be a very big event and the first of its kind. If you are serious about your athletes performance we will see you there. Any questions please contact Coach Reed 623-414-7761.
Why do Arizona sport coaches feel that they don't need to get better? Is our state a power house at anything other than golf and baseball? It's funny of all the schools that showed up it was one that just won a FOOTBALL state title. This clinic was free and had speakers from all the local colleges. What else do you coaches want? I would like to know why coaches would not attend something like this? Why? Do you know everything about strength and conditioning? Was it the location? Was it the date? Let me know so I can change it. We are doing these things to help you. I lost money and will continue to lose money until our state can compete NATIONALLY at all sports. Wake up coaches!
For the future what can be done to help you better your programs through strength and conditioning? (clinics and technique sessions)
the timing was not great. If you could have it closer to the beginning of the summer, or right around the AZFCA, that would be better. I did not make it mostly because its the end of the summer. Staffs are tired if they are working hard in the weight room. Early on, or before summer programs start would be better timing as then we could adjust our program based on some of the topics covered at your clinic.
Thank you very much for the info. I am trying to set up something with the AZFCA for this year. We would like to do it in May before school is out. I understand about the long hours over the summer, but if I want my program to be better I have to give something up somewhere. The way I look at it is if you coach at a school that didn't win a state title those coaches should have been there. I thank you for the feedback though. Keep your eyes open we will be doing something again during winter break.
