Brophy v. Chandler

Chandler gets all they can handle in a 43-29 victory on the Cox 7 game of the week

With Brophy on a two game skid, Chandler fans may have expected a blowout win but after the two teams played to a 7-3 game in the first quarter, it was apparent that the night was going to not go as smoothly.

Brophy held the lead early after sophomore QB Tyler Bruggman hit Fred Gammage on a scoring strike and Chandler drove the field and kicked a field goal.

The second quarter was all Chandler though as the Wolves rattled off three scores in that time span to take a 29-14 lead headed into the half.

Brett Hundley caught fire and threw two scores in the second, one to Javon Williams and another to Richard Winston as time was winding down leading into halftime.

The Wolves also got a score out of RB Aaron Mayo. Brophy RB Josh Dennard scored his first of two touchdowns on the night early in the second quarter.

Brophy was bound and determined to keep the game close. After forcing a Chandler punt, Dennard took off and a cutback to the left and put the Broncos on the right side of the 50. Bruggman hit Gammage to put them in scoring position and Dennard capped off the drive with a 5 yard TD run. 29-21.

The Brophy D stepped up again and forced another punt and dennard continued to stay hot, returning the punt to the Chandler 20. Bruggman found another sophomore, WR Devon Allen, in the endzone with 3 minutes left in the third to pull within two. Bruggman's two-point conversion was good and we now had a 29-29 tie ball game.

The rest of the game was controlled by the Chandler offense as the Wolves finished the game with two consecutive TDs to walk away with a 43-29 win.

This was a very good ball game. People were down on Brophy but this is a very young team that is only going to get better as the season rolls along.

This is another great win for Chandler. This is as dangerous a team as you will find in the state. They have size on both sides of the ball, speed at the skill positions and the best QB in the state.

Game Ball

Hundley had 400 yards of offense on the night and his favorite target was Michael Okonkwo.

I have to mention the breakout performance of Brophy RB Josh Dennard. He rushed for over 150 yards and scored twice and had many great returns.
