Mt. Ridge v. North Canyon

The Rattlers improve to 3-0 with 20-0 win over Mt. Ridge on Cox 7 Thursday Game of the Week

Recap

The Cox 7 Thursday game of the week featured undefeated North Canyon versus winless Mt. Ridge, that statement remained the same as North Canyon won 20-0 in a game that featured two solid defenses.

After a scoreless first quarter, North Canyon struck first, going up 3-0 on a 24 yard Lupe Alandis field goal early in the second quarter.

Later in the quarter, Mt. Ridge blocked a punt but squandered the opportunity, fumbling the ball away one play later, North Canyon recovering. It took the Rattlers one play to take advantage. QB Tre Grant hit WR Bryant O'Georgia on a 32 yard pass to go up 10-0.

North Canyon added one more score in the first half on another Alandis FG. 13-0 at the half.

Down but not out, Mt. Ridge recovered a pooch kick on the kick off but failed to put points on the board. This would be the first of three times that the Mt. Lions had chances on the plus side of the 50 to score and came away with zero points.

The two other times Mt. Ridge had the ball inside the 10 after sophomore WR Keesean Green had excellent punt returns. A dropped ball in the endzone on a halfback pass and a bad snap on the FG attempt killed their chance in the third and they turned the ball over on downs in the fourth quarter.

NC scored late in the 4th on a Kai Russell TD to make the final 20-0.

Bottomline

Let's be honest, both team's offenses struggled and both teams have solid defenses. North Canyon's O is just a bit better, they have better skill players on the edge. Mt. Ridge didn't help themselves with 4 turnovers and missed on two opportunities inside the 10 and came away with zero points. Neither team runs the ball very well. Both teams need to cut down on the penalties.

Game Ball

I have to go with the North Canyon defense for pitching the shut out.
