Early in the game it looked like this would be a repeat of last year's Team California's drubbing of Team AZ. An 80 yard TD catch by SoCal's Christian Guzman gave them a 6-0 lead but this would be their only lead of the game.
QB Jon Brown led AZ on a drive that eat up the entire 1st quarter and one after running the ball to the 2 yard line, he plunged in for his first of two scores on the night. 7-6 AZ.
Later in the 2nd quarter, North Dakota State bound RB Marcus Brantley from Red Mountain scored to give Arizona a 14-6 lead at the half.
Like the 1st half, California struck first in the 2nd half with an early Tyler Rausa field goal but it was Jon Brown's legs again that kept Arizona on top. He raced in for a 50+ yard TD run to extend the lead to 21-9.
Team SoCal added a score in the 4th quarter but managed to get in scoring position again.
Final AZ 21 SoCal 16
A vast improvement for Team Arizona over last year. I think removing the 5A/4A North/South Game helped get more talent in this game.
Apollo QB Jon Brown, who is headed to Glendale Community College, was named the MVP. He rushed for two TDs and looked sharp throwing the ball as well.
