Red Mountain Wins Big Over Mesquite

Mountain Lions roll 38-0 on Cox 7 game of the week

Recap

After a first quarter filled with turnovers, Red Mountain scored 38 unanswered points to beat Mesquite on the Cox 7 Thursday game of the week.

After throwing for over 400 yards last week versus Westview, Red Mountain came out throwing the ball but after two first quarter INTs, the Mountain Lions went to the ground, utilizing RB Colton Plourd to get them in scoring range. QB Mason Thorman's 1 yard TD run put RM up 7-0 in the 2nd quarter.

A series later, Plourd was rewarded with goal line carry that he took in from two yards out after Mesquite's personal foul gave RM a 1st and goal. 14-0 Red Mountain at the half.

In the second half, Red Mountain went right back to the air. Thorman completed three passes to WR Aeron Carr and Red Mountain went up 17-0 after a Max Duran field goal.

Carr and fellow WR Drake Pierre each scored and DE Nick Beibierdorf intercepted a tipped pass and rumbled in for a score to give the fans a final of 38-0 on the night.

Bottomline

It took Red Mountain a quarter to settle in. They had two turnovers in the first quarter and then rattled off 38 unanswered points.

Red Mountain QB Mason Thorman is one of the most under-rated QBs in the state. He can really sling it. He has a strong arm, throws a nice ball and has good pocket presence.

Mesquite's offense needs to put some points on the board, this is the second game in which they have been shut out. They had some chances put they had way too many penalties and turnovers.

Game Ball

Have to go with the Red Mountain defense for pitching the shutout. QB Mason Thorman and WRs Aeron Carr and Drake Pierre also had good nights.
