Pinnacle scores with 14 seconds left to outlast Desert Mountain 28-21

Recap

Two once beatens squared off and after a slow first half, the fireworks started and a great finish took place.

The only score of the first half was a Michael Sanders to Michael Shepherd TD pass. The 36 yard pass gave Pinnacle a 6-0 lead.

Desert Mountain made the adjustments and took The Opening possession of the second half right down the field to take the lead. Kyle Allen hit Greg Frasco for a first down and then Steven Campbell on a 38 yard strike. 7-6 Desert Mountain.

After exchanging punt, Pinnacle took the lead back on a 58 yard Josh Hoekstra TD run. Sanders found Daniel Galindo in the end zone for the two-point conversion. Pinnacle now back on top 14-7.

After returning the ball to the 41 yard line, it didn't take Allen long to tie the game up, hitting Alec Waltman on a 36 yard bomb. 14-14.

Pinancle respnded, driving down the field behind multiple Hoekstra runs before Sanders ran the ball in from a yard out. 21-14.

The 4th quarter didn't have quite the scoring of the 3rd as both teams drve the field early on only t come away with no points. Desert Mountain missed a field goal and Pinnacle turned the ball over on downs at the 26 yard line.

With 5 minutes left to play, Desert Mountain got the ball back and Allen picked apart the Pinnacle defense to tie the score back up. He hit Campbell for his second TD of the night. 21-21.

Pinnacle didn't panic. With 2:32 left to play, Sanders hit Galindo for two first downs and Hoekstra had yet another tough run that gave the Pioneers first and ten at the 25 yard line. A few plays later, it was Sanders that found Mason Halton in the endzone for the score with 14 seconds left. 28-21.

Desert Mountain fumbled the kickoff and Pinnacle walked away with the victory.

Bottomline

Pinnacle knew going into the game they needed to stop Mark Andrews and they did what they had to do to do it. They took LBs Cole Neubauer and Matt Dietz and got in his face all night long and also put a safety behind them.

This was a great game til the finish.
