Huskies avenge regular season loss to Mt. Pointe in D1 state championship

Hamilton got the ball first and went on a 6 minute drive, scoring and taking a lead, one that would never relinquish.

A.J. Thigpen found TE Chad Nelson in the back of the endzone to get the scoring started.

Mt. Pointe fumbled the ball away on their first possession and Hamilton capitalized, with a Daniel Wichman field goal to take a 10-0 lead.

The teams exchanged punts to start the second quarter and Mt. Pointe had their best opportunity to put points on the board but had their field goal blocked.

Again, Hamilton would capitalize, this time Thigpen hit Tyler Eggers in the endzone with 17 seconds left in the half to take a 17-0 lead.

Mt. Pointe started the second half like they did the first, with a turnover. This time, Hamilton's Levi Sterling returned an interception for a score and push their lead to 24-0.

The Pride finally did get in the scoring column in the third quarter, scoring twice. The first was on an Antonio Hinojosa pass to Emmanual Butler, the second on a John Abercrombie field goal. 24-9 entering the 4th.

Each team added a score in the 4th, Hamilton on a Kevin Walters TD run and Mt. Pointe on a Hinojosa to Garette Craig TD pass.
