Big nights on a national stage for some of the state's top players

Player of the Week

Salpointe QB Andy Cota had a huge night on a national stage. Playing against Liberty HS from Nevada, Cota threw for 266 yards and 5 TDs and ran for a sixth score.


*In his first start, Desert Edge's Anthony Hernandez was a perfect 8 for 8 and threw for 225 yards and 5 TDs.


*Mt. Pointe's Wesley Payne could be in either the RB section or defensive section. He was great on both sides of the ball for the Pride in their win over Bishop Gorman. He ended the night with 167 yards rushing and 1 TD.

*It was a coming out party for Mt. Pointe junior RB Paul Lucas. Lucas rushed for 143 yards and 2 TDs and ended up getting his first offer from Oregon State.

*Last year's leading rusher, Matt Guida from Queen Creek, had 100 yards and 2 TDs.

*Blue Ridge's Nolan Cook rushed for 163 yards and a score.

*Ironwood Ridge RBs Jake Vertanian and Cole McLofferty had big nights in a win over Liberty. Jake rushed for 201 yards and 3 scores while Cle had 156 and 3.


*Desert Edge's Elijah Marks caught 4 passes for 124 yards and 3 TDs against South Mountain.

*Salpointe's Cameron Denson and Kaelin Deboskie had big nights against Liberty. Denson caught 5 passes for 120 yards and 2 scores while Deboskie had 4 catches for 121 yards and 3 TDs.

Special Teams

*Campo Verde's Erick Belcher returned a punt and a kick off for scores against Goldwater.
