Centennials offensive line lived up to the hype as the Coyotes kicked off their 2013 season with long drive, dominated by runs and QB Jordan Suydam's sneak gave CeHS an early 7-0 lead.
Chandler dodged a bullett on their next drive. They fumbled the ball away giving Centennial the ball inside the 40 yard line but Centennial fumbled it right back a few plays later.
Then the Bryce Perkins show started.
Perkins looked sharp early and was part of the next two scores, running for the Wolves' first score and throwing a 64 yard TD pass to sophomore Chase Lucas late in the 1st quarter to give Chandler a 14-7 lead.
The teams exchanged punts but on Centennials attempt, the snap was mishandled and Chandler got the ball back at the 20 yard line. On the first play, Perkins threw a TD pass to Elijah Sykes. 21-7.
Centennial answered with a nice drive capped off by Suydam's TD pass to Tyler Simpson on 3rd and 13. 21-14.
Chandler was able to march down the field, utilizing Elijah Sykes' speed. Perkins found him for two first downs and Sykes rana reverse for another. With under a minute to go in the half, Perkins ran in from 3 yards out to put Chandler up 28-14 at the half.
Centennial forced a punt on the second half's opening drive but their offense came out without Suydam, who seemed to have hurt his shoulder on the last play of the first half. The offense responded to the adversity, going on a long drive that ate up most of the clock but most importantly got the Coyotes within one score. Centennial drove 85 yards on 14 plays capped off with a 4 yard Dedrick Young TD run. 28-21 after 3.
Centennial was never able to get any closer. Perkins added two more scores for Chandler in the fourth quarter, one passing and one rushing to put the Wolves up for good.
Final- Chandler 41 Centennial 21
Chandler had a lot of holes to fill on offense, especially at RB. Sophomore Chase Lucas played very well and underrated WR Elijah Sykes proved to be a nice weapon. Chandler proved they are legit.
A few areas that really hurt Centennial. One, injuries. Their starting QB didn't play in the second half and starting left guard went out in the second quarter. Two, penalties. Three, fumbles. The injuries cannot be controlled but the flags and fumbles can.
To me this was an easy pick. In his first game as a starting QB, Chandler's Bryce Perkins accounted for over 300 yards of total offense and 6 TDs.
