Salpointe Beats Marcos

The Lancers score 40 unanswered to remain undefeated

What many expected to be a great game, pitting the #1 and #2 ranked teams in division-two, quickly turned into a blowout.

Salpointe set the tone early, marching down the field and scoring on their opening drive on a Andy Cota run. After forcing a 3 and out, Salpointe struck much quicker, this time Cota hit Cameron Denson on a 92 yard TD strike to put the Lancers up 13-0.

The Marcos defense did tighten up, forcing two Salpointe punts but with their star QB Josh Eckley hobbled with an injury, the Padres' offense struggled to get a drive going.

Early in the 2nd quarter, Denson intercepted an Eckley pass, which set up another score. Cota ran down inside the 15 and then threw a pass to Denson, who then pitched it to Kaelin Deboskie for a score. 20-0.

Another turnover gave Salpointe their 4th score of the night. DT Brandt Davidson recovered a fumble and rumbled to the house. 26-0.

Salpointe added one more score before the half when Cota hooked up with Denson again. 33-0.

Salpointe scored on their opening drive of the second half on a Jay Williams TD run and Marcos got on the board on a Kylee Lawrence TD reception late in the 4th.

Final Salpointe 40 Marcos de Niza 7

There should be no question taht Salpointe is the #1 team in D2. Marcos' defense has not been exactly stupendous this year. With Eckley out/limited, their offense was almost non existent tonight. Couple that with playing a talented Salpointe squad and you get the score we got tonight.
