I was at the first meeting between these two teams and what a much better game to watch. The first game, Desert Edge had won in the 1st quarter but Shadow Ridge had a chip on their shoulder and gave the Scorpions a much better game.
Desert Edge took the early lead on an Anthony Hernandez to Tyler Grittman TD pass to put DE up 7-0 but that would be their only points of the half.
In the 2nd quarter, Shadow Ridge went on an 80 yard drive that ate up most of the quarter. Heavy doses of Chris Salsberry and aided by three penalties, the Stallions knotted the game up at 7 on a Salsberry run.
Halftime score 7-7.
Desert Edge wasted no time, marching the field and scoring on their opening drive on another Hernandez to Grittman TD pass. PAT no good. 13-7.
Shadow Ridge responded on another long drive. Salsberry again was the key to the drive, getting the bulk of the caries and the eventual TD run. Shadow Ridge took the lead 14-13.
But this would be their only lead and last points scored as Desert edge controlled the the rest of the game.
Hernandez would throw TD passes to C.J. Heard, Jordan Jackson and Elijah Marks and freshman RB Roshaun Johnson scored with under 2 minutes to go to give Desert Edge a 40-14 victory.
Desert Edge will face Saguaro next week at Arcadia HS in a rematch of last year's semi-final game.
Give it up to Desert Edge. They played well in the 4th quarter and pulled away. Shadow Ridge had some chances to keep it close but in their run first offense, penalties hurt. They put themselves in 1st and 20 way too many times.
Desert Edge QB Anthony Hernandez threw 5 TD passes.
Desert Edge beats Shadow Ridge
