What a game!
The first quarter started with fireworks and the fourth quarter ended with just as much excitement.
After forcing a punt, it took Boulder Creek just one play to get on the board. Gunther Johnson hit RB Blake Dawson in the flats and Dawson raced 52 yards for a score. 7-0.
Westview was quick t answer. On their second play of the drive, RB Rameihk Bowles ran 65 yards to even the score at 7.
BC went two for two, scoring on their first play again as Johnson hit Troy Reed on an 85 yard TD pass. PAT was blocked. 13-7 with only 4 minutes off the clock.
Westview fumbled the ball away and Boulder Creek capitalized on another Johnson to Reed score, this one from 24 yards out. 20-7 after 1.
Things slowed down in the second quarter as the two teams split six punts. Westview was able to keep things close, scoring with 25 seconds left in the half. Storme Donahue connected with Jalen Johnson a 50 yard TD pass to make it 20-14 in favor of BC at the half.
Boulder Creek marched down the field on the opening drive of the 2nd half and went up 27-14 on a 3rd Johnson to Reed TD pass.
Westview answered, or it seemed, as Johnson returned a kickoff for a score only to have it called back on an illegal block that truly wasn't needed. The Knights ended up getting the ball at the 20 but came away with no points.
Westview wouldn't go away though, they forced a punt and moved the ball in scoring position but a holding call then a Ryan Parenteau INT thwarted another drive.
27-20 to start the 4th quarter and there was plenty of action here.
Westview started the quarter with a 25 yard Johnson TD run, PAT no good, to get with in 7. 27-20.
Boulder Creek got a nice return, some nice runs by Dawson and a 22 yard Gunther Johnson TD run to go up 34-20.
But it was yet another return, this one counted, that kept Westview's hopes alive. Alonzo Alexander went 85 yards to pay dirt. 34-27 with 8 minutes to play.
Boulder Creek fumbled the ball and Westview recovered at the 15 yard line. It looked like a holding call would kill the scoring chance but Jalen Johnson got the penalty yardage back and then score from 15 yards out. The PAT was blocked and Boulder Creek kept a 34-33 lead.
Boulder Creek slowed their hurry up offense down and chewed up clock before punting. Westview got the ball back with 2:40 to play but fumbled on their first play, with BC recovering.
Final Boulder Creek 34 Westview 33
Two quality programs playing in this game.
I think Boulder Creek showed they are legit. They have two quality wins now after beating Mesa Mt. View in week 1.
Westview had their chances but penalties and turnovers hurt them tonight.
Boulder Creek QB Gunther Johnson threw 4 TDs and ran in another. WR Troy Reed caught 3 TDs passes for the Jaguars.
