With a slim chance of making playoffs with a victory over Desert Ridge tonight, Mt. View played the Jaguars tough but in the end Desert Ridge's ground game ate the clock and but the game away.
After a Mt. View punt, Desert Ridge kicked off the scoring on a 30 yards Landon Whitlow FG. 3-0 Jags.
The Toro offense showed the could be just as physical as Desert Ridge and put together a nice drive capped off on a short Caleb Daniels TD run. 7-3 Mt. View.
Desert Ridge's Tavian Daniels took the wind out of Mt. View's sail with a 99 yard KOR touchdown just seconds later. 10-7 Ridge.
For much of the 2nd quarter, Desert Ridge's defense played great. They forced punts on consecutive possessions and turn both into scores. Capitalizing on a short field, Taren Morrison scored from 4 and 17 yards out respectively to build the Jaguars' lead to 23-7.
Late in the 1st half, Mt. View was able to string together a drive and sustain it with a huge 4th down conversion. Trevor Willis hit sophomore WR Curtis Hodges to get to the 1 yard line. Daniels scored again a play later. A bad snap turned into points for Mt. View as holder Dennis Morris handled the snap and found Mata'ava Ta'ase in the end zone to make it a one score game. 23-15 with under 1 minute to play in the half.
But that wasn't the end of the scoring in the half. Morrison rumbled 54 yards for his 3rd score of the game with 37 seconds left in the half.
The game remained close as the team's exchanged scores for the entire second half, other then a turnover to start the half and a knee to end it.
Braden Arnett came away with an early INT and Mt. View was able to turn it into points. On 4th and 7, Willis hit Ta'ase for a score to cut Desert Ridge's lead back to 8. 30-22.
Desert Ridge followed that with a 17 play, 6 minute drive capped off by Morrison's 4th TD of the night. 37-22.
A big run by Daniels and a 43 yard Willis to Phoenix Hollen pass put the Toros back in scoring position. Daniels scored from 2 yards out on 4th and goal. 37-29.
Justin Irby returned the KO to the 50 and Desert Ridge pounded the ball down the field again. This time Alec Hathcock scored. 44-29.
Mt. View kept things interesting, Willis raced 60 yards for a score to cut the lead to 8 yet again. 44-36.
But Desert Ridge went right back to the ground, ate up clock and Whitlow kicked a short FG that sealed the deal.
Final Desert Ridge 47 Mt. View 36
I give Mt. View credit, they came out and fought but in the end, Desert Ridge's run game could not be stopped.
Desert Ridge RB Taren Morrison was near the 200 yard mark and scored 4 TDs.
