Very early in the first quarter Queen Creek senior runner Weston Barlow rushed 21 yards for the first Bulldog score. The touchdown, one of six for Barlow, in a 49-14 victory over Desert Edge in the quarterfinals of the D3 bracket, set the tone for the evening.
A few minutes later Creek QB Bryce Dobbs hit receiver Zane Whitting for a score. Barlow rushed for another first quarter score creating a deficit the Scorpions would not make up. Barlow added two second quarter scores and a two point conversion giving the Bulldogs 35 first half points. In the first half the Desert Edge offense, plagued by bad snaps, penalties and a turnover on downs, could not get moving only getting a score late in the second quarter making it 35-6 at the half.
Barlow continued his domination in the second half busting off the right side for a 45 yard score early in the 3rd quarter. Talented Scorpion sophomores, RB Roshaun Johnson and QB Tehran Thomas combined for eight points with a seven yard Johnson TD and Thomas 2pt conversion to cap the scoring for Edge on the evening. In the fourth Barlow added one more score making the final 49-14.
Bottomline: Barlow dominated, beyond his TD runs, Barlow moved the chains all evening converting multiple 3rd downs to keep Scorpion playmakers off the field. Next week Queen Creek once again faces, explosive Saguaro. In early October Queen Creek lost to Saguaro 34-18. Barlow, who is on a tear, rushing for nearly 1,000 yards over the past three games, was shut down in the first matchup against the Sabercats.
