Friday Night Phenoms: 8/23

The first week of football in Arizona is complete and a defensive player wins the first player of the week honors

Player of the Week

* There were some great offensive performances last week but I am going with a defensive player to start the season. How often does a player record four interceptions? Not very. So I am going with Basha's Seth Doumbia, who had 4 INTs in a win over Liberty.

Coach of the Week

* Jason Wilke - Tolleson- Used his double wing, run oriented offense and came away with a win against Poston Butte. Throwing just 9 passes, with 6 completions, the Wolverines tallied 316 yards and 5 TDs on the ground.

Team of the Week

* Campo Verde - CV traveled down to Tucson and played highly ranked Salpointe and came away with the win.

* Basha junior Ryan Kelley threw for 425 yards and 4 TDs in a win over Liberty. Kelley added two rushing scores.

* Saguaro's Kare Lyles was sharp against Valley Vista. He was 14 of 17 for 258 yards and 4 TDs.

* Paradise Valley's Daniel Bridge-Gadd broke the school record for career TD passes against Rincon. In the game he had 3 passing TDs and 2 rushing.

* Desert Edge junior Tehran Thomas ad 5 rushing TDs and 1 passing against Catalina Foothills.

* Stetson Stallworth from Yuma Catholic threw for 294 yards and 4 scores against Cortez.

* Seton Catholic's Garrett Boyd had 355 yards and 2 TDs against Safford.

* In his first start at QB, Chandler's Mason Moran had 2 passing and 2 rushing TDs against Pinnacle.

* Sabino junior Drew Dixon passed for 3 TDs and ran for 1 against Copper Canyon.

* Sunrise Mountain junior Chase Cord had 366 yards and 4 TDs passing and 74 rushing yards and 1 TD.

* Amarii Keyes from Skyline ran for 263 yards and 4 scores in a win over Westview.

* In an overtime win against Desert Mountain, Queen Creek's Gavin Danielson rushed for 215 yards and 2 scores.

* Brophy's Ryan Velez rushed for 3 TDs against O'Connor.

* Macarious Blount ran for 211 yards and 2 TDs in Mountain Pointe's win over Marcos.

* Tolleson's Ruben Marsical ran for 155 yards and 4 TDs in a win over Poston Butte.

* Saguaro's Byron Murphy had a great all-around game. He caught 5 passes for 91 yards and 2 TDs, had 2 rushing TDs, an interception and an 80 yard KOR.

* Congrats to Paradise Valley's Jacob Brown! He broke the school's career TD reception record against Rincon.

* Yuma Catholic's Brandon Hunter caught 4 passes for 163 yards and 2 TDs against Cortez.

* Basha's Hunter Dean-Gibson caught 7 passes for 263 yards and 3 TDs against Liberty.
