It took some time but this game turned into a good game. Turnovers, flags and missed kicks and the crowd a 6-6 tie at halftime.
Desert Vista scored on two Connor Culp field goals while Basha scored 20 minutes into the game on a Corbin Blomquist TD run. The Bears missed the PAT.
Desert Vista got things on track on their first drive of the second half, driving the field and scoring on a Keishaud White run to take a 13-6 lead.
Basha quickly answered, junior QB Ryan Kelley hit M.J. Harris for a score. The Bears were unsuccessful on their two-point try. 13-12.
DV fumbled the ball away and Basha capitalized. Kelley hooked up with M.J. Harris on a big gain that put the ball at the 2 yard line. Kelley finished off the drive, scoring from a yard out. This two-point play was good and Basha took their first lead of the game, 20-13 headed into the 4th.
The Thunder punted the ball away, giving Basha a chance to go up two scores. The Bears drove into Desert Vista territory but ultimtaly turned the ball over on downs.
DV got a quick score on a 42 yard White TD run to tie it at 20 each.
Desert Vista's defense forced a three-and-out and the offense took over from the 50 yard line with 5 minutes to play. Big Lelon Dillard and White went to work, getting nice gains on the ground while eating up the clock.
DV got to the 9 yard line and with just 18 seconds left in the game, called in LSU commit Connor Culp, to kick a 26 yard game winning field goal.
Final Desert Vista 23 Basha 20
The kicking game was the biggest difference tonight. DV hit three of their four field goals while Basha struggled to make an extra point.
Desert Vista showed they are for real. No one expected the Thunder to be 3-1 at this point. They run the ball and play solid defense and that will always give you a chance in the end.
Basha has now dropped two in a row.
Desert Vista kicker Connor Culp made three field goals including the game winner. RBs Keishaud White and Lelon Dillard were also outstanding tonight.
