Apollo beats O'Connor 35-28 in a close contest

Apollo comes back from 14 down to beat O'Connor 35-28

Breakdown

After a scoreless first quarter, Apollo got on the board first on a 7 yard TD run by Steffon Canady.

O'Connor was able to respond. Seth Kutter took the kick off 73 yards to the APollo 17 and QB Bailin Markridge hooked up with Garrett Arthur to knot the game at 7.

O'Connor's defense forced a punt and it would be Kutter coming up with a big play again, catching a TD pass from Markridge to give the Eagles a 14-7 lead at the half.

O'Connor extended that lead to 21-7 after Kutter scored again and it looked as if the Eagles were in clear control after forcing another Apollo punt.

But O'Connor fumbled the ball away and Apollo capitalized on QB Brett Aker TD run. 21-14.

Turnovers haunted O'Connor as Apollo LB Derrick Gray intercepted Markridge and returned it to the 1 yard line. RB Jayson Robertson punched it in and the score was now tied at 21 all.

Apollo's defense led by Canady and Carson Taylor, forced a punt and Apollo's Eddy Alvizo took over, taking two fly sweeps 30 and 18 yards respectively, putting the Hawks in scoring range. Aker hit Taylor for a TD pass and Apollo regained the lead 28-21 in the 4th.

Apollo forced another punt and marched the field, this time scoring on another Robertson run to put the Hawks up 35-21 with 2 minutes to play.

O'Connor made is interesting, getting a late TD run by Markridge with 30 seconds left on the clock to get within one score.

O'Connor's onside attempt was recovered by Apollo.

Final: Apollo 35 - O'Connor 28

Bottomline

I enjoyed this game. O'Connor looked to be cruising but two costly turnovers let Apollo get back in the game.

Game Ball

Apollo RB Jayson Robertson ran tough and gets the game ball for his 2 TDs.
