Pinnacle pulls out one point win over Boulder Creek in Thursday game of the week

Boulder Creek traveled to Pinnacle looking to get their first win of the 2015 season, it came down to the wire but Pinnacle walked away with a 34-33 win against the visiting Jaguards.

The first quarter was full of punts and penalties. Pinnacle scored early on a Jeff McGuire field goaland Boulder Creek would score the first touchdown of the game when Blake Labno picked off Spencer Rattler and ran in for a score. 7-3 after 1.

Boulder Creek extended that lead to 13-3 when Gunther Johnson hit Gianni Tenaglia on a screen pass that went 52 yards to the house. The PAT was no good.

It took Pinnacle a matter of minutes to answer with Rattler hooking up with TE Dalton Cash for a 51 yard score. 13-10.

Pinnacle's defense, which had been putting heavy pressure on Johnson, forced another punt. Rattler then found his other TE Josh Stedman for a score to take the lead back. This pass went for 62 yards and Pinnacle went up 17-13.

Pinnacle was able to extend that lead every more just before the half. Getting the ball back with roughly a minute to play in the half, the Pioneers marched down the field, aided by a roughing and pass interfere call, to get into scoring range. With 5.5 seconds left on the clock, Rattler hit Anthony Vaughn from a few yards out for a score. 24-13 Pinnacle at the half.

Boulder Creek wouldn't go away though. On their second drive of the second half, Johnson and the Jaguars went to the quick passing game, picking Pinnacle apart. Troy Reed and Travis Ward each caught multiple passes on the drive with Reed getting one for a score. PAT again was no good. 24-19, Pinnacle up in the 3rd.

Boulder Creek's defense forced a puntand their offense went right back to work, same quick passes, again driving the field. Johnson hit Jacob Christofferson on a TD strike. Johnson then ran in the two-point conversion and the Jaguars went back on top 27-24.

But the lead didn't last for long. Pinnacle marched the field and Nick Ferrara punched the ball in for a score. Pinnacle back on top 31-27.

The Pinnacle defense forced another punt, which went just 14 yards, giving their offense excellent field position. The Pioneers got the ball to the 1 but couldn't punch it in, settling for another McGuire field goal. Their lead was extended to 34-27 midway through the 4th.

Boulder Creek went on a 16 play scoring drive, converting two 4th down plays on the possession. RB Willie Muller plunged in from a yard out with 1 minute to play in the game to get the Jaguars within 1 point. The PAT was no good.

Pinnacle kneeled on the ball and came away with the 34-33 win.

Bottomline

This game turned out to be very exciting. It's tough to make that many special teams errors and beat a quality team like Pinnacle.
