Scottsdale Saguaro tops city rival Scottsdale Desert Mountain

Saguaro cruises to a 56-14 win over Desert Mountain

Breakdown

Saguaro jumped out to a 14-0 1st quarter lead on two Stone Matthews TD runs and never looked back.

Desert Mountain cut the Sabercats' lead to 14-7 on an Andrew Campbell TD run but that is as close as they would get.

Saguaro rattled off six scores before Desert Mountain would get back on the board and cruised to a 56-14 win.

A recap of the scoring:

Kare Lyles threw three TD passes in the 2nd quarter. One to Byron Murphy from 56 yards out, one to Jared Poplawski and another to Logan Pettijohn.

Lyles found Poplawski again in the 3rd quarter. Matthews got his third score of the night in the 3rd and Poplawski returned an interception 89 yards for a score.

Desert Mountain rounded out the scoring with an Austin Nuessle to Kade Warner TD pass in the 4th.

Bottomline

No need to sugarcoat anything. Saguaro is the better team. Desert Mountain has some good players, is having a nice season and should make the playoffs but Saguaro has too many horeses.

Game Ball

Saguaro has a ton of big name guys but two lesser known players stood out to me tonight. RB Stone Matthews scored three TDs and TE/DE Jared Poplawski scored three as well, two catching and one on an interception return.
