4th quarter trick play fuels BC's win over Liberty


After the two teams exchanged punts, Boulder Creek got on the scoreboard first. Senior QB Daniel Carrizosa hit Dax Johnson on 4th and 6 for a 36 yard score. Carrizosa hooked up with Johnson and junior TE James Reed for big gains on the drive as well.

Liberty responded with a drive that resulted in a field goal and gave the crowd a 7-3 score in the 2nd quarter.

Liberty had two more chances to score in the second, missing a field goal and then getting turned away on 1st and goal at the 1 yard line with just a few ticks on the clock left in the half.

Liberty came out and went on a 13 play drive that gave the Lions their first lead of the game. Senior RB Colton Newton, who would rush for over 100 yards on the night, came up with his first score of the 2016 season.

The game got sloppy in the 4th quarter, with Liberty turning the ball over three times and Boulder Creek once.

After forcing a Liberty three-and-out, Boulder Creek used some trickery on their first play of the drive, lining up Carrizosa in the slot and running a double reverse pass that resulted in a touchdown. Carrizosa hit Tristen D'Angelo for the score with 4 minutes remaining.

Liberty would get the ball twice in the remaining minutes of the game but went three-and-out once and turned the ball over on the second.

Liberty out gained Boulder Creek but turned the ball over way too many times and had trouble converting while in scoring position.
