Stone Matthews and 6 TDs lead Saguaro past Marcos de Niza

Saguaro went right to business, K.J. Jarrell returned the opening kickoff to the 40 and two Stone Matthews runs later and the Sabercats were up 7-0.

Matthews added another TD later in the quarter to put Saguaro up 14-0.

Marcos kept it interesting and cut the lead to 14-7 on a Naz Greer to Jesse Guzman TD pass.

Marcos had some momentum, forced a punt and a turnover on Saguaro's next two drives but couldn't find the endzone. In fact, Saguaro's Josiah Bradley intercepted Greer right after the Padre defense forced their turnover.

Another two play drive and Saguaro was on top 28-7. This time junior QB Max Massingale found the endzone.

Saguaro's defense harassed Greer all night. Carson Nugent and Kyle Soelle corralled Greer and the senior QB was called for intentional grounding as he attempted to get rid of the ball. Greer was in the endzone and a safety was awarded. 23-7 Saguaro.

It was Matthews again scoring on Saguaro's next drive, building the lead to 29-7.

Marcos got on the board seconds before the half ended. Greer found Marcus Naisant in the back of the endzone on 4th and goal with 9 seconds left to cut Saguaro'slead to 29-14.

But that is as close as Marcos would get. Matthews scored three TDs in the second half and that gave the Cats a 50-14 lead.

Marcos scored in the 4th on an Anthony Gomez-NiCastro TD.

Final: Saguaro 50 Marcos 21

Saguaro imposed their will on both sides of the line of scrimmage. The OL paved the way for Matthews to gain 300 yards and the defensive line had at least 6 sacks of Naz Greer.

Game Balls

Easy to pick Stone Matthews who had 300 yards rushing and 6 TDs for Saguaro.

DE Austin Shirley had a nice night, I counted 3 QB sacks for the senior.
