Sunrise overpowers Peoria in the second half

These two teams traded TDs in the first half but Sunrise had four 4th quarter scores to pull away and win 45-20 over visiting Peoria.

Sunrise scored the lone TD of the first quarter on a Garrett Veldhuizen run.

Peoria answered early in the 2nd on a Nate Dobson to Ray Cortez one-handed TD grab. PAT was no good. 7-6 Sunrise.

It took just a few seconds for Sunrise to extend that lead to 8 points. Chase Cord hit Zach Pells on an 81 yard pass right up the seam. 14-6.

Peoria tied it up when DE Zach Bingham picked Cord and rumbled 39 yards for the score. Two-point play was good. Game tied at 14.

Sunrise Mountain went right back to work on their next drive, marching the field scoring on another Cord to Pells TD pass. 21-14 at the half.

Peoria got the ball to start the 2nd half and scored on a 53 yard Nate Dobson to Isaiah Veal bomb. PAT was no good, 21-20 Sunrise.

But that was as close as the Panthers would get as Sunrise got scores from the usual suspects, Veldhuisen and Pells in the 3rd quarter, a Cord TD pass to Jay Anderson in the 4th and a FG by J.J. Nash in the 4th.

Final: Sunrise 45 Peoria 20

Peoria kept the game close for about 2.5 quarters but down 35-20 after the third, the Panthers had two 4th quarter turnovers that helped Sunrise cruise to a convincing 45-20 victory.
