Mt. Pointe jumped out to 20-0 lead and never looked back

Top ranked Mt. Pointe scored 20 points in the 1st quarter against #2 Desert Ridge and never looked back, beating the Jaguars 27-13.

The Pride jumped on top of Desert Ridge quickly. The defense forced a three-and-out and the offense went right to the ground. Rashie Hodge scored on a 24 yard run.

Junior DB Kenny Churchwell came up with an INT on the next drive for Mt. Pointe and Hodge would score for the second time on the night. PAT was blocked. Just like that, Mt. Pointe was up 13-0.

After forcing another Desert Ridge punt, Hodge scored again. 20-0 Mt. Pointe and we were still in the 1st quarter.

The second quarter saw the two teams punt a combined 7 times. Desert Ridge got the lone score of the quarter on an Anthony Decozio FG. 20-3 at the half.

Desert Ridge was able to cut the lead to 14 in the 3rd, when Decozio kicked another FG. 20-6.

But any hope of a comeback was shutdown as Mt. Pointe responded with a long drive capped off by a fourth Hodge TD. 27-6.

Desert Ridge scored late in the 4th to give us a final of 27-13.

I know Mt. Pointe was without their QB and RB, but with their defense playing as well as they are, points are hard to come by.

Mt. Pointe RB Rashie Hodge was a workhorse! He punished defenders en route to 4 rushing TDs.
