PC dominates in 2nd half to take home a 33-21 win

In the 1st half, Scottsdale Christian and Phoenix Christian traded scores but PC dominated in the second half and came away with a 33-21 victory.

PC opened with the ball and did what they do best, pound the football. The Cougars ran the ball 8 straight times, handing the ball off to Matt Hocking and Tyller Graham, marching 60 yards on a drive that was capped off by Hocking's 3 yard TD run. 7-0.

After trading punts, SCA got on the board on a Jake Miller to Jacob Kaites 72 yard scoring strike up the seam to knot the score at 7.

PC turned the ball over on downs and SCA was intercepted to start the 2nd quarter. PC capitalized, Sophomore Malik Taylor raced 44 yards before being pushed out of bounds. Graham finished off the drive on a 7 yard run. 14-7.

SCA again would answer immediately. Miller hit Zac Lane for a 28 yard gain to the 1 yard line and Shayne Pahnke tied it once again on his 1 yard plunge. 14-14.

Phoenix Christian's first miscue of the game led to points for SCA before halftime. Attempting to punt, PC snapped the ball over the punter's head, he attempted a pass and it was knocked down. Scottsdale Christian took over at the 44 and took their first lead of the game on a Miller to Lane pass. 21-14, SCA at the half.

PC came out in the second half and really controlled the ball. Their defense forced a punt and the offense went right back to ground and pound behind Graham and Hocking. Graham had a huge 1st down run on 3rd and 11 while Hocking rattled off 15 yards to set up Graham's 1 yard TD run. PAT was no good. 21-20.

Greg Boyce intercepted Miller and PC got the ball at the 14 yard line. A few plays later and QB Taylin Rodgers punched it in from a yard out. Two-point play failed. 26-21.

PC squibbed the kickoff and the ball hit an SCA player and was recovered by the Cougars. PC marched to the 15 yard line but 2 delay of game penalties, a holding call and a sack killed the drive.

PC's defense forced another punt and the offense put the game away. Graham rumbled 45 yards before adding a 16 yard TD that put PC up for good 33-21.

Bottomline

Phoenix Christian won the time of possession battle and did not turn over the football. In the 2nd half, their offense grinded out drives, limiting SCA to four total possessions (2 punts, 1 INT and 1 turn over on downs).
