Centennial wins a defensive battle 23-7 over Liberty

From the get-go, you could tell what kind of game this was going to be.

Centennial forced a Liberty punt to start the game and Coyote LB Taylor Fiame got Centennial on the board with a pick 6 early in the series to give CeHS a 7-0 lead.

Liberty put together their best drive of the game on their next possession, marching the field and scoring on a Colton Newton run to knot the score at 7.

After a Centennial fumble and the teams exchanged punts, the Coyotes added their second defensive touchdown of the game. Marcus Wakeham scooped up a fumble and dove in the endzone to give Centennial a 14-7 lead.

After forcing another Liberty punt, Centennial mounted their best drive of the game. Junior RB ZiDane Thomas rumbled to the 15 yard line setting up a Ruben Beltran to Jared Villa TD pass. PAT was no good. CeHS up 20-7 late in the 2nd quarter.

Centennial added three more points on a Xavier Rojas FG just before the half to extend the lead to 23-7.

That would be all of the points scored. The second half saw both teams punt the ball 6 times and turn the ball over on downs 3 times.

Final: Centennial 23 Liberty 7

This was a defensive battle between two teams that have grown into rivals.
