Tucson Super Soph
Standing 6'3" in the 8th grade David Jackson did not play middle school basketball. At that point in his life he had not played any organized basketball but expressed the desire to do so. Living in a quaint apartment community right outside Davis Monthan Air Force Base, David's game was honed doing battle with older kids on a one-basket court shared as a parking lot for the local residents. Along with friends Alan Sample and Robert Joyce the three eight graders became neighborhood icons.
Alan and Robert ventured onto the club basketball scene the summer before their freshman year and urged longtime friend David to do the same. Immediately his impact on the game was noticed in the Tucson area. Playing in the Salpointe Just Hoops summer league you would often hear the murmurs of, "Where did this kid come from?" He continued to impress on lookers as his team played numerous games at the Fitness Center located on Davis Monthan. His desire grew leading him to try out for the freshman basketball team at Rincon High School.
David quickly established himself on the freshman level and was forced to the varsity team because of a lack of height amongst the other players available to the Rincon squad. The initial thought seemed to catch David off guard as he declined to make the move, but through much encouragement and the proper thought process he came to the right decision and made the move to the varsity level. Though shakey at times he gave a positive contribution to the team lead by versatile scoring threat Chad Davis. Finishing with a less than expected record the Rangers hopes are high to make an impact on the 4A playoff scene for the 2003/2004 season.
With the ability to give his all and strive to be an influential part of the Rincon team, David displays heart and determination in filling the roll that is asked of him by his coach. Now demanding the same intensity from his teammates the Rincon Rangers opened the season with a 75 - 48 victory over the Sabino Sabercats on Tuesday night December 2nd and the now 6'6" David Jackson pitched in 22pts to lead all scorers. I will get my first impression of him as I venture to the Rincon Gymnasium to see the Rangers play against the Desert View Jaguars. Not thought in the class of the more heralded Super Sophs in the Phoenix area, I am sure we will hear his name ring louder as he progresses to his senior year.
David Jackson 6'6" 175lb F/C Rincon High School Sophomore
Athletic wing playing in the post time to time that will progress with proper guidance. Will not force the ball as he shows the ability out to the fifteen-foot range. Great shot blocker within team defensive structure, but plays great man to man defense.
