5A - 4A Top 10!

As we head into 2004, the road to AWA becomes more confusing each time these teams hit the hardwood...'s Top 10.

Heading into region play, here are the 5A-4A Top 10.

5A Top Ten

  1. Highland: Coach John Burns has not received the credit or publicity he deserves.  Highland has reached the Final Four in his first 2 years, and 3 in a row is almost a given.  Coach Burns is the reason why!
  2. Mesa Mtn.View:  Champs of the high profile McClintock Tournament
  3. Mesa: Had a slip, but with a healthy line-up, could be the team to beat as we head into the tail end of the season.  Has Mr. Blitz ever been mentioned?  Not yet but look for a feature on Brandon this week.
  4. Deer Valley:  Hill has elevated his game over the last month to be the legit POY candidate.
  5. Brophy: Runner-up in the McClintock Tournament, The guard combo of T-Soup, and the Schneider Bro's are a dangerous crew.  Through in Stritt and Mr. Lewis and Brophy will be there in the end.
  6. Dobson:  A great run in California, Mr. Kris Taylor (I spell it with a "K" Thank you) has emerged as one of the States best!
  7. Corona del Sol:  Winterbottom, Benson, Borenngasser, Ruddy, Bates and co. have more tricks up their sleeve as region play goes into full steam.
  8. Mtn. Ridge:  The "I can't get no respect" of Arizona Prep Hoops, but with D-Q and co. these guys are one of the most exciting teams to watch.
  9. Trevor Browne:  To many players makes TB a shock at #9.  But will get back in the grove this month.
  10. Chandler:  Dipped a bit but the Wolves behind Mr. Shaw and LW will be back come February.

On The Bubble:

Horizon - Salpointe - Desert Vista - Desert Mountain

4A Top Ten

  1. McClintock: The Utah recruits, Calvin - Univ of Utah and Freeman - So Utah are cutting down the nets in AWA.
  2. Greenway:  Unbeaten yet virtually untested.  They still sit at #2 behind 6'9" John Black.
  3. Ironwood Ridge: Still unbeaten in Arizona, IWR glad to be back in SOAZ!
  4. Page: Got the Hill beat out of em, but the experience will help in February.
  5. Shadow Mtn: The "Run and Stun" is coming together, as they make their way up the top 10.
  6. Saguaro: Sits at #6, but this team is much better and will be a final four come March.
  7. Pinnacle:  Runner-up of the Cactus Shadows tournament
  8. Thunderbird:  Burke is the word for them to make a run.
  9. Chaparral: Dangerous but inconsistent.
  10. Coronado:  1st trip to the Top 10, but tested this week against Chaparral. Athletes with Rameriz and co.
