The MLK Basketball Classic

The MLK Basketball Classic is a one-day event held at Wells Fargo Arena on the Arizona State University Campus. Four regularly scheduled basketball games featuring teams from each of the eight 5A Conference regions will be played. In the future, girls teams will play in odd years, boys in even years. This is the first year of the MLK Basketball Classic.
Games will begin at 2:00 in the afternoon and conclude at 10:00 PM. Cox 9 will broadcast the final two games live. Game ceremonies will feature students from the participating school in singing, dancing, and educational readings. Awards will be presented to individuals selected by the participating schools who have worked to unify their communities.

Purpose of the MLK Basketball Classic:
1) Increase the understanding of the
Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.
2) Encourage positive relations among diverse populations.
3) Acknowledge and honor individuals who have
contributed to the ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
4) Provide a unique venue for high school athletes to compete.
5) Showcase student talents.
6) Raise funds for The Mesa MLK Scholarship Fund
