2005 Player Profile - Johnny Pinto

Whether it's playing the wing, or the post, this kid comes to play each and every game.

Junior wing  Johnny Pinto is starting to raise some eyebrows this season. At 6'6", 195 pounds, Pinto has grown up playing the wing, but is now being asked to work just has hard in the post by new coach Doug Harris. Pinto has come up through the DV ranks and is a starter for the Thunder.
Pinto is not new to the basketball scene having started playing club ball back in the fourth grade with the then-dominate YBAA travel program. Since then Pinto has played for the Arizona Stars and will be part of the top 17U CTB Cager All-Stars for the 2004 club season. Pinto was his school teams' offensive POY his sophomore year, and was recently named to the Top 30 All-Star selections in the CTB Fall Showcases held at ASU and Arizona Preps at Grand Canyon College.
While having to share the load down low with seniors Xavier Kilby and Travis Gabbidon, Pinto has put up solid numbers on the season with 12 PPG and 6 RPG averages. He has excellent footwork and faces the basket extremely well. Along with underclassmen teammates Dutch Perryman and Julliaan Irvin, it looks like Desert Vista will not only go far this season, but next year's outlook is solid also. Pinto has a 3.94 GPA on a 4.0 honors scale, and is a member of the National Honors Society.
Pinto plays hard every posession, and with continued improvement will be a solid Low to Mid major prospect for 2005.  A strong presence inside, he can shoot the 3, and will be looked at to play the 3 at the next level.  Look for more on Pinto as we head into region play.
