Grimes' Career High Leads Pima Over Ft. Thomas

Nick Grimes is the only senior is Pima's starting five. Friday night he played like it. He scored a career high 27 points en route to a 63-56 victory over Fort Thomas.

For everyone in attendance it seemed that Fort Thomas didn't have a chance from the start as Pima came out and put up 21 points in the first quarter behind four three pointers. But is was Ft. Thomas! They came out on fire in the second quarter and outscored Pima 15-7 to tie the game at the half.

The third quarter was Pima's turn to shine as sophomore Nephi Bryant hit two consecutive three's to push the lead to six. Ft. Thomas big man Shawn Gustina answered back with two buckets of his own to cut the lead to two but that was as close as the Apaches would get as Grimes rolled off eight straight points and the Riders led 51-38 at the end of three.

Pima's lead was fourteen with 4:00 left in the game when Ft. Thomas put up a fight one last time behind Jon Johnson and would get the lead down to six with two minutes to play. Grimes then hit back to back three's too ice the game for the Riders.

Grimes was the game high scorer with 27, Bryant had 16.

Shawn Gustina, who started despite a bad ankle, led the Apaches with 20. TJ Cheney tallied 19.

The win solidifies Pima as the second team in the 1A East behind Duncan. The Riders will travel to Duncan tomorrow for an afternoon showdown for
the top spot.
