EASTERN EARNS HUGE WIN
The Eastern Arizona College men's basketball team won a crucial ACCAC contest Wednesday night when they defeated Cochise 84-74.
The game began with Cochise jumping out to a quick 11-4 lead and nine minutes into the half they led 24-15. Eastern then came to life and went on a 15 to 2 run to take control of the game, at the half though EAC trailed by one, 40-39. The second half saw the lead change hands 6 times with the score being tied 4 more times before a Phil Harvey layup gave Eastern the lead at 68-67 with just over 7 minutes to play. The Monsters outscored Cochise 16-7 the rest of the way to hang on for the win.
Eastern placed four players in double figures led by Brandon Woods who poured in a career high 26 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Jeremy Haggerty added 14 while Carlos Corral and Seth Merrill each chipped in with 12. Corral led everyone with 12 rebounds on the night and Craig Shuck handed out 9 assists while committing only one turnover.
Eastern (14-11, 9-8) will travel to play Scottsdale on Saturday in a game with huge playoff implications. With five games left to play, EAC is tied for fourth place with Central Arizona while Cochise and Scottsdale are one game behind in a two way tie for sixth - the top six will advance to the Region playoffs.
