Simply Supah! Lynch Reaches Top!

The 411 on perhaps the best high school season in years starts today. Today we tackle Mesa, Harris, Lynch, a forgotten key and ask the question of the day...

The 411 - March 5. 2004

  • Knowing Shawn Lynch for a number of years, when he started out as an assistant at Agua Fria High School (early 90‘s)-then on to Head Coach-where he coached a great player in Brad Kennett and lifted the quality of that program that will never be matched again, it comes to no surprise that he has taken over the throne of being "Top Dog" in the Arizona High School coaching ranks. Lynch is the consummate student of the game. And in a move that describes his understanding of what it takes, and rise to the top, he brought in assistant coach Shane Burcar. Burcar, a former assistant at Mesa Junior College, was given free reign to coach. Unlike a majority of prep programs, where the assistants are actually stat keepers or yes men, Lynch, secure in his position gave Coach Burcar coaching duties. I was given the chance to watch Mesa's third practice of the season, and the attention to detail, fundamentals and Lynch designating responsibility where all building blocks to cutting down the nets! There is a new king in town! Congrats Coach Lynch!
  • Brandon Blitz-Though this kid was not given any pub throughout the year, Mr. Blitz can surely take pride in what happened last night. Blitz, a senior 5-10 PG, was the spark plug off the bench for most of the season. A crowd fav, Blitz would rain his 3's without hesitation.
  • Travis LeBaron-Mesa's future DI prospect who is the ultimate leader, game breaker and on-floor coach. LeBaron will become the man for Lynch, and Matt Komenda-Graham Hatch and co. should be catering, washing his car, getting the newspaper etc… to him all summer long. Hey Travis, break out those dimes and start selling em' to your Mesa Teammates. You will make a fortune!
  • Xavier Kilby-Travis Gabbidon-Congrats! People try to knock you down yet you keep coming back! Both of these big men can look forward to college careers in the future. Here is a little tidbit for you, a Pac 10 coach recently called a high profile scouting service looking into your game. Although I do not believe either is ready, there is interest in major conferences out there!
  • Doug Harris-How can anybody question his coaching ability. He took his team to the final game! New coach, new system, traditions and expectations having to be changed, and this first year coach stuck to his game plan, convictions and beliefs. Coach Harris is a rising star in the Arizona Coaching ranks, and expect him to be a regular visitor to AWA in the coming years.

More 411 in the coming days, on Brophy, the DV rumors, future stars, club hoops. Bayless (sorry no interviews), Marcos de Niza, recruiting updates, crazed parents etc…
