Micky Burtnyk Receives Scholarship

While many high school players think they got game, Micky Burnyk proves himself on the court and lands a DII Full Ride Scholarship on the East Coast. This is why many should consider playing JC for a year...

Micky Burtnyk, an extremely hard working and passionate guard who played at Desert Vista and this past year as a freshman at Mesa Community College, has received a full ride scholarship to DII Merrimack College outside Boston, Mass.  Merrimack is a member of the Northeast-10 Conference, and posted a 17-12 record during the 2003-2004 campaign.

Burtnyk is a 5'11", 160 pound, explosive PG that helped MCC have an incredible season this past fall.  Burtnyk was instrumental in leading MCC to a big win over Yavapai College.  He also helped lead his Desert Vista team to the Championship game against Gilbert his senior year in high school. His desire, knowledge, abilities, and relentless determination were well received by the coaching staff at Merrimack.

This is a perfect example of what attending a junior college can do for an athlete. Not only does he get to go on to enjoy and compete at the next level, he receives an incredible education and new culture on the east coast in the process.  Congratulations Micky, more young players should follow in your footsteps.
