Class of 2006: John Carrizosa - Pueblo High School

After 5 months of intense competition, Carrizosa establishes himself as a top 2006 PG in the ...

Definition of a "True Point Guard"? Many opinions exist, but I'll give you mine:

  • Coach on the floor - Can recognize defenses and adjust without instruction
  • Looks to pass, advance the ball - #1 goal is to run the offense
  • Scoring is secondary - Knows his job is to pad the assist stat.
  • Mentally tough - Pressure will not phase him
  • Great Free Throw Shooter - Money when game is on the line
  • Can score when needed, and knows exactly when that time has come - Can nail 3's to open up the defense
  • Plays Hard - Leaves everything hes got on the floor

Simple but scarce in this day and age of "me first" attitudes among players.

Johnny Carrizosa is a "True Point Guard". The 5-10 junior, 160 lb leader at Pueblo High School has elevated his stock, over the last 5 months, to become one of the best 2006 PG's in Arizona. And only trails Salpointe star Steve Ledesma in the 520 area code.

Ledesma and Carrizosa have battled each other in club basketball for years, and have developed a friendship off the court as well. But with added experience this next year, and another intense club season in 05, Carrizosa's name could be at the top of the (520) 2006 PG's.

Unassuming on the court, Carrizosa has played against some of the top back court players in the country, and this past July went up against the Oakland Soldiers, loaded with "High Major" players. The Pueblo star clearly picked apart the athletic defense and established himself as a definite "one to watch" over the next 2 years.

Pueblo, with returning players, 6-3 Kevin Cole (Sr), Orlando Dominguez (Jr.) and Carrizosa, are a team to beat in Tucson.

Carrizosa has the "it" needed to compete at a high level, and with added improvement on his shot, experience playing against superior competition and 2 more years of running the show at Pueblo look for Carrizosa to continue his career at the next level.

Updates on the "Battle of the #1PG 2006" will be coming throughout the 2005 season.

Next up: The Catalina Foothills future star - 6-3 Junior - Bryan Reisner
