Centennial 58                                   Pinnacle 14

This evening's game pitted the #8 ranked 5-0 Pinnacle Pioneers against the 5-0 #2 ranked Centennial Coyotes in a Wells Fargo Region matchup.

The Pioneers opened strong and moved the ball quickly to the Coyote 12.  On a big play 2nd and 12 the Coyote D force Pinnacle QB Garrett Reed to fumble.  Centennial recovers.

Terry Longbons did not start due to an ankle injury, but no matter he was replaced by the speedy Tim House and the Coyote O never missed a beat.  On the opening drive QB Joe Caskey hit receivers Zach Merril and Justin Garmen with big passes.  To cap the drive House takes pitch left and scampers 18 yards for pay dirt.  PAT good.  Centennial 7 Pinnacle 0

After a punt on the ensuing Pinnacle drive, Centennial takes over and following the formula of the previous drive quickly moves on the arm of Caskey and the feet of House.  The drive is finishes with a 2 yard run by House.  PAT good.  Centennial 14 Pinnacle 0.

Pinnacle is again forced to punt and Centennial takes over on their own 22 yard line.  Showing the diversity of the Coyote O Joe Caskey hits receiver Junior Hackworth on two big plays of 52 and 25 yards.  The 25 yarder was for a TD.  PAT good Centennial 21- Pinnacle 0.

To the credit of Coach Zupke and the Pioneers Pinnacle did not fold but went to work and started playing like a 5-0 top ten team.  Junior QB Garrett Redd hits wideout Mark Ciliberti for a 36 yard reception.  On the next play Cyrus Igono takes a pitch left for a long TD and just like that the score is Centennial 21 – Pinnacle 0.

After the exchange of a couple of punts, the Coyotes get the ball on their own 16.  House decides to take it to the house 84 yards up the middle.  PAT good Centennial 28 Pinnacle 7.

Again Pinnacle is determined to make it a game.  Starting at their own 30 Redd hits Igono who rumbles to the Coyote 36. Redd then hits WR Marc Ciliberti at the 19.  On 2nd and 10 Redd makes a great toss and hits Igono on a corner route for a TD.  PAT good. Centennial 28 Pinnacle 14.

At the end of the half Centennial moves quickly and is able to get a field goal making the score at half Centennial 31 Pinnacle 14.

The start of the second half shows why Centennial is so scary.  With a sharp combination of passing from Joe Caskey to Matt Kieth and Junior Hackworth and tough running from Tim House and Zach Timberlin the Coyotes quickly score as House runs in his third TD. PAT no good.  Centennial 37 Pinnacle 14.

This is where things start getting ugly. Pinnacle QB Garrett Redd throws back to back to back interceptions.  The  first INT is taken by Centennial DB Matt Kieth for a 56 yard TD.  The second INT leads to a 25 yard TD run by Jr. RB Zach Timberlin and the Third INT is ran back by LB Ryan Coulter 55 yards for a TD. When the dust settles what might have been a game now is Centennial 58 – Pinnacle 14.

The majority of the 4th quarter gave the second team some work on both sides.  Final Centennial 58 – Pinnacle 14

Bottom Line: Centennial is the total package.  Without Longbons they put up 58 points on a ranked region opponent.  If they can keep their edge, they should be playing late in December.

Game Balls: Jr. Tim House, on most of the teams in the state Tim House would be the star.  Look out next year!!  Stat line: 17 carries, 217 yards, 4 TDs, most of the damage done in the first half.
