Player Spotlight: Saunders Montague

One player that had a spectacular season was Mesquite WR Saunders Montague. Saunders quietly put together one of the better seasons in the entire state of AZ but is often left out of discussions when many people debate who the top WRs in the state are. We at 24-7 believe that Saunders has a bright future at the next level and were fortunate enough to speak with him.

 

24-7: You had a great season. What were your stats?
Saunders: I had 51 receptions for 823 yards and 7 touchdowns and 2 interceptions on defense.

 
24-7: What was the most integral part of achieving this success?
Saunders: A combination of speed and conditioning training, my parents, my teammates, my coaches, and motivation.


24-7: What type of training did you do this summer?
Saunders: I participated in a speed and conditioning training program as well as working out at Mesquite High School.


24-7: What are your goals as far as playing football in college?
Saunders: To play Division I and be a contributing player to the team's success.


24-7: Who is currently recruiting you? Any offers yet?
Saunders: UTEP, South Dakota State, NAU, Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Oregon State, Utah, Colorado School of the Mines, and New Mexico. No offers at this time.


24-7: What would you consider to be the best part of your game?

Saunders: I have the ability to make difficult catches.

 
24-7: What is your bench, squat and 40 yard?
Saunders: Bench: 215, Squat: 335, and 40 yard: 4.5/4.6


24-7: Who is the best player you have faced this season?
Saunders: Mekell Wesley (WR Hamilton).

 
24-7: Name a junior on your team that recruiters should watch for.
Saunders: Kevin Gallas (DB), Danny Batten (DB) and Erik Archuleta (QB).


24-7: What is your greatest football memory?
Saunders: My first varsity touchdown against Mesa High School.


24-7: What motivates you?
Saunders: My desire to go to college and play to the best of my God-given ability.


24-7: Do you have any pre-game rituals?
Saunders: Going to Wendy's and getting 2 quarter pound double stacks and fries.
