A young, physical squad that came out expectedly with opening game jitters. Numerous turnovers, bad decisions and careless fouls plagued CdS. Mental mistakes that will soon be corrected with game experience and the coaching of Coach Duane.
Corona lacks athleticism. Something that will hurt against a quick pressing team. They play hard defensively but need to sustain it for the complete possession. Imadiyi will be a force inside providing shot blocking and causing the offense to adjust their shots. Corona's lack of quickness needs to be compensated with help defense and communication.
Offensively they are a tremendous rebounding team. With Bates, Miller and Imadiyi crashing the boards. Second shots and great effort will be there trademark. Imadiyi in my opinion needs more touches. This opens up their perimeter game. Come February this young inexperienced team will be more effective running their system and getting the right people the open looks.
Daryl Coates-JR Strong PG who needs experience at the 1. Confidence and game time will provide the needed leadership for Duane. Shot the ball from 3 but not a strength.
Alex Wentis-SR Shot the ball from 3 and knocked em down. Corona's top 3 point shooter this day. Wentis needs to provide senior leadership for 32 minutes. With a line-up full of underclassmen, Wentis needs to settle the Aztecs down in crunch time. Seemed to play with a chip on his shoulder. Made numerous mental mistakes with fouls and turnovers.
Eric Michaelis-JR A scoring threat off the bench. Is Corona's best shooter. Will shoot 3's from deep and will knock'em down. Will have big scoring nights throughout this season. Should be a Sophomore this year.
Demetrious Earl-JR 5-11 Point Guard was on the bench in street clothes
Clayton Bates-JR 6-3 wrecking crew. PLAYS HARD for 32 minutes and is literally all over the court. Bates will have big numbers this year and is their best player. Crashes the boards with the best. Can score in bunches. Can shoot it from 10-15ft. Will shoot 3's but is not a 3 point shooter. A set shot that need work for him to become a legit next level prospect. One of the best offensive rebounders in the state.
Brett Miller-JR 6-3 all purpose wing. Miller can shoot it from 15, attack the basket and draw fouls. Needs to play in system to be effective. Coming of screens, setting picks etc….
Jonathan Gleave-SR Solid player that provides Duane with scoring, smarts and work ethic off the bench.
Sean Imadiyi-JR Going back to our September evaluation of Imadiyi-UPSIDE describes Imadiyi. Skilled. Experience a must in next 2 years. Long arms, shot blocker. Can finish in traffic. Nice touch from 15ft.. Only has played competitively for 2 years. Reminds me of SCA's Nkem Obougboh-Texas-San Antonio signee. Although NKEM was more advanced at same stage. Imadiyi could develop into a force with hard work and development.
Scott Dezell-JR 6-5 post off the bench. Another young Aztec player who will provide back-up for Imadiyi.
Alex Murphy-JR undersized 4-5 that can score and plays hard off the bench.
This year will be an experience needed for the young Aztecs to mature mentally and physically. Their roster is filled with Juniors which means Duane and co. will be ready to battle next year. As Bates, Imadiyi, Coates, Miller and Wentis mature, Corona will continue to get better and win games they are not expected to win.
