5A TOP 10

The Top 3 are set, but after that it's a toss up. Eric Hipolito (pictured) and the Mountain Pointe (Blackout) make it tough for any Pride opponent. Tonight is a key game at Corona del Sol....

PrepAZ.com's 5A Top 10
February 1. 2005

Record: 22-0
Comments: Burrows leading the way for POY. Ernst leading the way for COY. Throw in Kamp (best underclass big man) and Rodgers (most underrated big man) and you have the #1 team in the State!
Record: 22-1
Comments: The "Valley" are working out the kinks. Maybe Coach Fellens should forget the score and play his top 8 regardless for 32 minutes. This would help the group of talent heading into the stretch run. Chemistry comes from playing together. A State Championship is on the line...
3. MESA
Record: 18-2
Comments: Hatch (Wichita State), Komenda (Utah Valley State), LeBaron (DI prospect) and Lynch (Head Coach) have had some bumps, but experience and superior coaching will have them in the hunt in Glendale.
Record: 15-7
Comments: 2 losses to the #1 and #3 teams this past week are expected. The #4 slot is holding steady until it is slapped away from the Mustangs. Easy sailing until Region playoffs.
Record: 17-3
Comments: 2 wins over Mountain Pointe validate #5 but the weak schedule hurts. Townsend continues to show his ability and the Mustang athletes are blowing through the Metro. A 5A threat for the crown because their quicks and athleticism will bother the big boys.
Record: 16-5
Comments: 6-6 Shane Edwards and 6-3 Eric Hipolito are thriving in the "Ballard system". The lanky Edwards can score from anywhere on the floor including long range 3's or 2 feet above the rim.
Record: 16-6
Comments: 6-7 Will Donahue is adjusting to life in the new system. If the Hamilton loss was reversed, Mesquite would be a top 5 team! Look out AZ, this team is on the upswing.
Record: 17-3
Comments: The 4A losses have hurt their credibility but the sleeper from the West behind 6-7 Austen Powers has put together a great season. No more L's until the State playoffs.
Record: 17-5
Comments: Another solid year behind 6-2 SR Justin Williams and the stellar play of 6-8 Soph Chris Bonham. Tonight a key matchup with Brophy.
Record: 17-7
Comments: Up and down play have hurt the Broncos, Behind Michael Strittmatter and David Schneider, Brophy is dangerous heading into the Region Playoffs but the 2 need HELP. Tonight against PV will set the tone for February.

Others to Watch: St. Mary's, Corona del Sol, Gilbert, Hamilton, Marcos de Niza, Salpointe, Buena, Desert Vista
