Brophy battles to win over North Canyon

afireinside gives us his take on...

At North CanyonThe last time Brophy met North Canyon, the Broncos ran away with the game in a 78-42 blowout win.  This time around, there was no thirty-six point margin of victory.  However, at this crucial period in the season, Brophy coach Mark Granger will take any win his team can get.

Brophy set the tone early, feeding the ball into the low post to center Taylor Palmer and Princeton commit, Michael Strittmatter.  The duo scored 22 of the Broncos 30 first half points.

North Canyon remained within striking distance behind Jeremy Belt, Andra Rogers, and Dan Hann.  Brophy led 30-20 at halftime.

Brophy consistently denied North Canyon second chance points by crashing hard to boards and pushed their lead to as many as fifteen points in the third quarter.

North Canyon started to chip away at the lead early in the final quarter.  Thanks in large part to pressure defense, the Rattlers cut the Broncos' lead to six, but the fundamentally sound Broncos were able to hold on for a 64-51 victory.

Michael Strittmater finished with 32 points for Brophy.  Taylor Palmer had 11; David Schneider contributed nine.  North Canyon was led by Belt with 14; Hann and Rogers each had twelve.

With the win, Brophy moves to 17-7 (6-3 Desert Valley Region) and North Canyon falls to 12-9 (4-5 Desert Valley Region).  The Rattlers face St. Mary's, a team they defeated 79-77 earlier in the season, on Tuesday.  Brophy travels to Paradise Valley on Tuesday.
