Recruiting Roundup II

See who committed this week.

With National Signing Day just a few days away (Feb. 2nd), the commitments continue to trickle in.

Maybe the biggest news was Paradise Valley OL Shawn Byrnes changing his mind and de-committing from the University of New Mexico and committing to Texas Tech. This makes three D1 commitments for PV; Byrnes, Clapp to Oklahoma and Andrew Leahy to NAU. They still may have one more as TE/DE Dennis Hilburn is taking a trip to Army.

The Ivy League is hitting AZ hard. Columbia picked up their 3rd AZ commit when Highland kicker Patrick Huston committed. Others that have committed to Columbia are Marana Mt. View LB Ryan McGinty and Centennial DT Tanner Highlen. Another Ivy League commitment comes from Dobson TE Drew Thurston who committed to Penn.

Two commitments that kind of flew under the radar were Chandler DB KB Stevenson committing to Hawaii and Westview DB D'Andre Covington committing to NAU. NAU has put together a great recruiting class. Following Covington to NAU will be Brian Wriston, Cyrus Igono, Andrew Leahy, Austin Martin and Shaun Fitzpatrick.

Also the rumor is that Ekom Udofia will make his choice known this Sunday.

Remember just because a kid does not sign on signing day, does not mean all is lost. Schools will still have scholarships available. Some colleges get commitments from kids and those kids will unexpectedly change their mind. This leaves the program searching for the best available player. This is where many diamonds in the rough are found.
