Defensive Line


1.) Ekom Udofia                  Chaparral                One of the most dominant DTs in state history. Had offers from across the country and chose Stanford. Parade All American.

2.) Dexter Davis                 Thunderbird             ASU commit with great quickness and motor.

3.) Tanner Highlen              Centennial               Columbia commit has ability to play inside and outside.

4.) Jake  Robinson              Peoria                     Once he adds weight, his length and quickness could cause fits for college QBs at UTEP.

5.) Shelley Smith                Westview                Dominant two-way lineman has verballed to Colorado St.

6.) Alonzo Akins                 Maryvale                 One of the most under-rated DL in state. Was Northwest Region Defensive Player of the Year. Headed to GCC.

7.) Joe Bernardi                  Flagstaff                 Known for OL play but a very tough defender with great motor. Fresno St commit.

8.) Cody Jones                   Sabino                    One of the most versatile and athletic players in the state has committed to play at Cal next year.

9.) Shawn Byrnes               Paradise Valley         Big, old school run stopper is Texas Tech bound.

10.) Ty Porter                    Highland                  1st Team All 5A by coaches and AZ Republic.

11.) Juan Diaz                    Westwood               2nd Team All 5A.

12.) David Bertrand             Horizon                   2nd Team All 5A selection was good run plugger for Horizon.

13.) Mike Kelinschmidt         Saguaro                  Teamed with brother to make a very good O and D line for the surprising Sabercats.

14.) Shawn Cade                Chandler                 Little guy was tough to block.

15.) Anthony Williams          Blue Ridge               3A Defensive Player of the Year has signed with NAU.

16.) Rickey Lopez               Dysart                     Under-rated lineman from a struggling program. Is headed to Phoenix College.

17.) Sam Chung                 Moon Valley             Was dominant in playoff run.

18.) Jack Wagner               Cienega                  2nd Team 4A pick.

19.) Remy Kale                   Desert Vista             Headed to Adams St.

20.) Andrew Thompson        Phoenix Christian      Good player for 2A state champs.




1.) Matt Clapp                    Paradise Valley         Late season injury to Clapp may have hurt PV's defense more than offense. Oklahoma commit.

2.) Richie Brockel                Greenway                Boise St. commit covers a lot of ground. Very athletic for his size.

3.) Ryan McGinty                Marana Mt. View       Plays game fast; two time all state player. Columbia commit.

4.) Ryan Coulter                 Centennial               Undersized but key to Centennial's defense. Has committed to play at Phoenix College.

5.) Matt Hain                     Moon Valley             Had great offensive season but may be better on D. Tackling machine committed to Phoenix College.

6.) Jimmy Rogers                Hamilton                  South Dakota St bound LB is strong versus run and pass.

7.) John Coker                   Agua Fria                Tiny LB used toughness and quicks on the way to West Valley defensive Player of the Year honors.

8.) Reno Blomquist              Chandler                 The heart of a tough Chandler defense.

9.) Daniel Villasenor            Mt. Ridge                Played big during run to state championship game.

10.) Xavier Smith               Sunnyside               Limited time on defense but made most of his time with big plays. Has skills to play LB at UofA.

11.) Jake Taylor                 Corona                    Another undersized LB that has nose for the football.

12.) Kris Stone                   Highland                  Old school type backer that helped Highland during late season run. Headed to South Dakota St.

13.) Miles Posz                   Hamilton                  Move from the DL was a successful one.

14.) Ladarius Howard          Cactus                    Under-rated LB was back bone of tough Cactus D.

15.) Nick Covey                 Mt. Ridge                Injury cut short Nebraska bound LB's season. More than likely would have been ranked much higher if not for injury.

16.) Jemario Crawford         Yuma                      Central Region Defensive Player of the Year.

17.) Terrence Hooks           Marcos de Niza         Athletic LB headed to BYU.

18.) Brock Knight                Canyon del Oro         One of the top LBs in Tucson.

19.) Eric Woolf                   Coronado                HM All 4A selection.

20.) Dustin Wicktor             Independence          Good two way player of Desert Sky Region champs.


Defensive Backs


1.) Greg Bird                      Red Mountain           Utah bound, punished opponents all over the field whether playing DB or OLB.

2.) Chris McGaha                Moon Valley             Prototypical size and speed could make him a PAC 10 safety.

3.) Nathan Vega                 Sunnyside               Two time all-stater is the epitome of the hardnosed Sunnyside D.

4.) Austin Martin                 Mt. Ridge                His ability to cover and make tackles in the box make him one of the states best. NAU got a steal.

5.) Andrew Leahy               Paradise Valley         8 picks says it all for this two way stud. Headed to NAU.

6.) Blaise Johnson               Corona                    Stanford bound athlete was dangerous and O and D.      

7.) Clayton Dowd                North                      Metro Region Player of the Year.

8.) D'Andre Covington         Westview

9.) Pete Hargis                   Desert Vista             HS QB has size and toughness to play to play college SS. Is headed to Army.

10.) Channing Trotter          Red Mountain           May be most athletic player on this list. Will play at UNLV.

11.) KB Stevenson              Chandler                 Very under-rated DB is headed to Hawaii.

12.) Luke Jaicks                 Westwood               Had 52 tackles and 7 picks.

13.) Abdul Howard              South Mountain        Virtually unknown coming into season. Had great year being named 2nd Team All 5A.

14.) Dan Hill                      Hamilton                  Solid performer on an all star Hamilton D is headed to play at Air Force.

15.) Wally Altamirano          Sunnyside               Often overshadowed by Smith and Vega but no less tough.

16.) Clint Morgan                St. John's                Coach's son brought size and speed to safety position. Headed to Mesa St.

17.) Cameron Douglas         Independence          Athletic QB would make a good safety at the next level. Playing at GCC next year.

18.) John Means                 St. Mary's               Better known for offensive exploits but a solid performer as DB.

19.) Cyrus Igono                Pinnacle                  NAU bound athlete was a very good two way player.

20.) Ivest Samayoa            San Luis                  It is hard to get noticed on a struggling team from Yuma but coaches rave about his toughness.
