Player Spotlight: Anthony Freeman

<STRONG>Interview with Cactus DE</STRONG>

This upcoming season Cactus high school returns talent on both sides of the ball from a team that went 12-2 and was one half away from winning a 4A state championship.  One of the keys to the Cobra defense will be the play of DE Anthony Freeman.  24-7 had the chance to chat with Anthony who is looking to return to the state championship game.


24-7: What is your official height and weight?
Anthony Freeman:
Height: 6' 1" Weight: 230

24-7: What is your greatest football memory?
Homecoming this past season we were down 29 points at half and came back and won. Its one of the greatest come backs in Cactus history

24-7: What are your personal goals for the upcoming season?
To get faster, quicker, and stronger also to be a student of the game.

24-7: How are you preparing for the upcoming season? Will you attend any camps this summer?

Anthony: I'm doing footwork stuff every other day and I'm training really hard. I plan to attend any camps that are available to me.

24-7: What aspect of your game have you really worked hard to improve? What area would you like to keep improving on?
I have been working on my speed and I would like to keep improving on becoming a student of the game.

24-7: Who are some of your teammates that people need to watch out for?
Mike Schmitt LB, Daniel Monarrez DT, Jake Liber DE, Richard Morris RB, Ezra Ricks LB/K and David Pollack DB.

24-7: Name one teammate you really respect and why?
I really respect Mike Schmitt because he is a tough player and he won't let you down.

24-7: What are your goals regarding playing football in college?
To try and make it as far as I can get.

24-7: Who is currently recruiting you? Do you have any offers yet?
I am receiving letters from UofA and Oregon. No offers.

24-7: Would you consider staying in state to play college?
Yes, most definitely I would consider that.

24-7: Who is the best player you ever played against?  
 I would say it is Jordan Lowe (Centennial OL who signed with UofA) because he really brought the comp to the table.
24-7: What are your best max lifts in the bench, squat, power clean and 40 yard dash?
  Bench: 345, squat: 530, power clean: 330, 40: 4.6.

24-7: How do you think your coach would describe you as a player?

Anthony: A player that strives to be great and has determination.

24-7: Who is your favorite pro athlete?
 I would say Ray Lewis because the intensity and determination he plays with on every play.

24-7: What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? Who did you receive it from? 

Anthony: Coach Phillips says, "Determination is one of the best keys to success"
24-7: Tell us what can we expect from your team this season?  What can you and your team do to make it back to the state championship?

Anthony: You can expect a fast and high powered defense with a high scoring offense.  We just need to be a unit of one, and work hard during the off season and have no doubts.
