A Scholar and an Athlete

Udofia, Brockel and Longbons honored

Often times the "student" part of student athlete is left unnoticed. Players are often more recognized for their achievements on the playing field then for the achievements in the classroom.

Recently, three of our student athletes were recognized for their work in the classroom, on the field and for their character. All three of them have signed division 1 letters of intent and will do their respective school proud.

The 2005 Piper Jaffray Scholar Athlete awards were awarded last Sunday at Bank One Ballpark, the MC was former Cardinal All Pro Ken Harvey. The winners were; Richie Brockel from Greenway HS. The two way standout at TE and LB who signed to play at Boise State was the winner from Glendale. The Scottsdale winner was Chaparral's Ekom Udofia. Ekom has signed with Stanford and was Arizona's only prep named to the prestigious Parade All America team last year. Peoria's winner was Centennial star RB Terry Longbons. This young man will stay in state and play for the Wildcats next year.

Congratulations to these young men, a school can never go wrong in giving a kid with such great character as these three a scholarship.
