All-Decade Team (90's)
Hard to imagine, but the players who were awarded with all state
recognition in 1990 played high school football 15 years ago. Since most seniors graduate at the age
of 18 factor in the 15 years past and most of these guys are at least 32 or 33
years old by now. The decade of the
90's featured some really great
QB – Ryan Kealy – St. Mary's (95)
Ryan's name to this day is still all over the

WR – Jason Birdsong – Cactus (90)
Birdsong was Chris McGaha before Chris McGaha. He could do it all from the wide out spot; catch the deep ball, go over the middle, take a short pass the distance and he routinely made difficult catches look easy.
WR – Damien Segovia – Greenway (95)
Like Birdsong Damien could do it all. Damien really had the abilities to stretch the field with his great speed. He had a tremendous stride that just seemed to eat up the cushion given to him. He teamed with Mark Brooks to form one of the best WR/QB combos in state history.
Honorable Mention: Carlos Artis(Washington), Kenny Cheatham(South Mountain), Craig Brown(Westview), Kenny Mitchell(Peoria), Tariq McDonald(St. Mary's), Brian Poli-Dixon(Sabino), Justin Taplin(Tempe), Shaun McDonald(Shadow Mt.) Sammy Moore(Westwood)
TE – Todd Heap – Mt View (97)
Heap led the Toros to a championship and was considered by some publications as the top tight end in the country coming out of high school. Heap burst on the collegiate level as well staring as a freshman for the Sun Devils(remember that catch in the end zone!). Heap has since went on to success with the Baltimore Ravens and is always mentioned as one of the best tightends in the NFL.
OL – Shawn Swayda – Brophy (91)
Swayda went on to have success on the defensive side of the ball while at
OL – John Tait – McClintock (92)
Tait was considered by many publications as one of best line prospects in the nation coming out of high school. Tait went on to star at BYU before being a 1st round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs. Tait is currently playing for the Bears.
OL – Marquis Muldrow – Maryvale (96)
Muldrow was a two time all
OL – Mike Saffer – Sabino (96)
Saffer was the anchor of a very good Sabino team in the mid 90's. Saffer then went on to star for the Bruins at UCLA. Played in a couple of Rose Bowls with the Bruins.
OL – Levi Jones – Eloy (95)
Jones was an unknown coming out of high school. In fact he walked on at
Honorable Mention: David Carter(Flagstaff), Damien Niko(Mt. View), Alan Parker (Agua Fria), Nick Johnson(Mingus), Brian Googins(Desert Vista), Mike Kalin(Peoria)
Bobby Wade – Desert
Wade lined up all over the field for the Thunder leading the team to a championship. Sometimes tailback sometimes wide out, Wade was also a great return man and a heck of a safety. Wade ended being a wide out in college at the U of A and has been playing in the NFL with the Chicago Bears the last two seasons.
There you have it, our all 90's offensive team. Let's hear it, we know people will talk about this maybe even say we're idiots (won't be the 1st time)! We know you can make a case for any of these guys being on the team and not in the honorable mention category. Either way let us know what you think. Look for the defensive side of the ball in the next couple of days.
