Player Spotlight: Laron Harrington

Last season Laron Harrington was a cog in the offensive machine that helped to lead the Rockets to a 4A state title.  This  upcoming year with the graduation of Chris McGaha, Tsar Johnson, Matt Hain, Brian Wriston and the transfer of Jeff Jones much of the offensive load will fall to Laron.  At 6'1 200 pounds and running behind one of the best O-lines in the state Laron could have a big season.

 

24-7: What is your favorite thing about playing high school football?

Laron Harrington: Friday Night Lights!!

 

24-7: What is your official height and weight?

Laron Harrington:  6'1 200 pounds.

 

24-7: What is your greatest football memory?

Laron Harrington: State football champions!!

 

24-7: What are your personal goals for the upcoming season?

Laron Harrington: To be unstoppable by the season and rush for over 1300 yards.

 

24-7: How are you preparing for the upcoming season? Will you attend any camps this summer? Have you gone to any combines?  How did you do.

Laron Harrington: The Nike one at USC,a local one at ASU(NTRA) I ran a 4.6 flat forty on ACUE track. I benched pressed 185 17 times, had a 32 inch vert and a 4.5 t-test. I will be going to a full padded football camp in Reno Nevada for a week this summer.

 

24-7: What aspect of your game have you really worked hard to improve? What area would you like to keep improving on?

Laron Harrington: I have really got my speed up. One area I could improve in is getting low. By doing that, I can become very dangerous

 

24-7: Who are some of your teammates that people need to watch out for?

Laron Harrington: I would say my whole o-line.  Isaiah Smart, also our secondary Brandon Reed, Jowan Johnson,Devon Simmons and my QB Cody Bruns. 

 

24-7: Name one teammate you really respect and why?

Laron Harrington: Isaiah Smart because you can count on him to get the job done.

 

24-7: What are your goals regarding playing football in college?

Laron Harrington: I would like to go somewhere that I would play running back.

 

24-7: Who is currently recruiting you? Do you have any offers yet? Who are your top 5?

Laron Harrington: My top five are: Cal, ASU, USC, Miami and the Washington Huskies.

 

24-7: Would you consider staying in state to play in college?

Laron Harrington: Yes, I would and try to become a hometown hero.

 

24-7: Who is the best player you ever played against?

Laron Harrington: Tim House.

 

24-7: Name one team who you really respect and why?

Laron Harrington: Mingus, because they all play hard football.

 

24-7: What other sports do you play?

Laron Harrington: Basketball and track.

 

24-7: What are your best max lifts in the bench, squat, power clean and 40 yard dash?

Laron Harrington: Bench 280, squat 490, power clean 280, and my forty is 4.6.

 

24-7: How do you think your coach would describe you as a player?

Laron Harrington: A quick learner, very motivated, determined  and a team player.  

 

24-7: Who is your favorite pro athlete and why?

Laron Harrington: Barry Sanders, he played the game.

 

24-7: What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? Who did you receive it from?

Laron Harrington: My grandma tells me, don't ever forget where I came from and  my mom says, take care of your responsibilities, my business, schoolwork, football practice etc.
