Last seaon Moon Valley went 14-0 and won a 4A state title on the strength of an offense led by record setting QB Brian Wriston. Stepping in to take the place of Wriston will be first time starting QB Cody Bruns. Bruns should have some help this season on the Rocket's quest to repeat, the entire offensive line and RB Laron Harrington return along with defensive playmaker Isaiah Smart. Recently 24-7 had the chance to talk with Cody.
24-7: What is your favorite thing about playing high school football?
Cody Bruns: Friday nights, and all the little things you have to do as a team.
24-7: What is your official height and weight?
Cody Bruns: 6'2 and 195 pounds.
24-7: What is your greatest football memory?
Cody Bruns: Winning the state championship last year.
24-7: What are your personal goals for the upcoming season?
Cody Bruns: Play hard and help lead my team to win.
24-7: How are you preparing for the upcoming season? Will you attend any camps this summer? Have you gone to any combines? How did you do?
Cody Bruns: Lifting weights and throwing routes with my wide outs, we went to Reno Nevada for a full contact camp. I went to a combine at ASU and I feel that I did really well.
24-7: What aspect of your game have you really worked hard to improve? What area would you like to keep improving on?
Cody Bruns: I feel I've worked really hard to improve my speed and agility. I need to work on my down field vision.
24-7: Who are some of your teammates that people need to watch out for?
Cody Bruns: Matt Arthur, Laron Harrington, Blaise Deal and Vinnie Paciulli.
24-7: Name one teammate you really respect.
Cody Bruns: I really respect Sammy Salamasina because he gives 110% no matter what.
24-7: What are your goals regarding playing football in college?
Cody Bruns: I would like to get a scholarship to play college ball. I wouldn't mind if it was a smaller school
24-7: Who is currently recruiting you? Do you have any offers yet? Who are your top 5?
Cody Bruns: Many of the Ivy League schools, Harvard for example. Also Oregon and Nevada have all shown interest. I haven't received any offers yet.
24-7: Name one team who you really respect and why?
Cody Bruns: The harder teams prepare and work the more respect I have for them.
24-7: What other sports are you involved in?
Cody Bruns: Track
24-7: What are your best max lifts in the bench, squat, power clean and 40 yard dash?
Cody Bruns: I bench 245, squat 400, power clean 245, and run a 4.64 forty.
24-7: How do you think your coach would describe you as a player?
Cody Bruns: Hard working and willing to learn and improve.
24-7: What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? Who did you receive it from?
Cody Bruns: My dad always says work hard and enjoy what you are doing.
