Best of Valley & Tucson Square Off

Friday, Cox7 Game of the Week producer Rich Reid will give his take on the Thursday night game as Maryvale takes on Centennial.  Some of the areas top talent will be in this one.  Jermaine Williams and Tim House may be two of the most recognizable names in the state, but they are not the only players on their team.  Ronald Huckaby of Maryvale is lighting it up while House is sharing carries with Jeff Hughes who is averaging nearly fourteen yards a carry.  We will look forward to getting Rich's take on this one.

On Friday the great games continue with a 5AI matchup, between undefeated teams when #4 Brophy and #3 Westwood hook up at Phoenix College.  Two high powered offenses meet.  Brophy brings a ton of balance.  RB Rahnee Dennard has rushed for nearly 600 yards while receivers Mike Gianolla and Matt Smith have combined for close to thirty grabs.  Westwood is known for its multi-dimensional run game but recently QB Brice Wilkins has found his throwing motion passing for 300 + yards two weeks ago.

In Tucson two of the state's most hard nosed programs square off as Mesa Mt.View travels to Sunnyside.  Look for some old school hitting and tough running when these two meet.  Last week, in the Toro's win at Gilbert, Ridge Nielsen rushed for just under 300 yards while Michael Smith of Sunnyside went for 238 in a win over Sabino.

In our 4AI matchups two of the best from Tucson will travel up to the metro area for big games.  #1 Cactus hosts up and coming Rincon currently ranked #8.  #6 Sabino hopes to rebound from a big loss to Sunnyside last week, but this will be a tough as they take on #3 Chaparral.  Chaparral got back in the win column by beating Tempe 30-7 last week.  Look out for four of the top backs in the division with Chaparral's Kyle Williams and Shaun Rothery and Sabino's Glyndon Bolaskey and Brooks Reed.  Along with these games we hope to bring you bonus coverage of Independence at Greenway.

Log on after the game for highlights, stats, message boards and the chat room.  We will continue the coverage throughout the week with Friday Night Phenoms, recruiting updates and evaluations of the state's top players.  Also keep an eye out as we post our mid-season all-state team and update our position rankings.
