ASU lands big one!

A couple of weeks ago, an excited Brett Palmer, 6-4, 265 pound defensive end from Tempe (Ariz.) Marcos de Niza came on the message board saying Arizona State had just offered him a scholarship and he would likely commit soon. Soon became this morning as the Sun Devils have landed one of the top defense lineman on the West Coast.

"I got it done this morning," Palmer told Student Sports correspondent Larry Drake. "I've always wanted to be a Sun Devil and didn't want to lead any other colleges on so I felt like the timing was right to announce now."

Palmer was offered at the Sun Devils Junior Day a few weeks ago which was when he posted on the message board about an immenent commitment. It's a great start for the Sun Devils as Palmer has excellent size, strength and ability and is one of the top five players in the state.

"My dad went to ASU and I grew up a big fan," Palmer said. "Plus the facilities and the coaching staff are great and I'm just excited about how everything turned out."

As a junior, Palmer totaled 48 tackles, nine quarterback sacks and five fumble recoveries to earn League lineman of the Year as well as All-Region honors. Another plus for ASU is Palmer is good friends with perhaps the top player in the state, Kyle Caldwell, so you can bet there will be some serious recruiting going on between the two between now and decision time for Caldwell.
