Every good team, no matter what level, has that game. The game where you come out flat, you make mistakes, your players are a little dinged up and you just can't seem to get it rolling. Millennium had that game tonight as they played a determined Lake Havasu squad. Often, what separates a good team from an average team is the ability to eventually shake off the dust, trust your scheme and your teammates and get it done. #2 ranked 9-0 Millennium eventually was able to do this on the way to a 30 to 14 victory over the visiting Knights.
The game started with Millennium moving quickly down the field only to fumble on the two yard line as they were about to score. Lake Havasu took advantage of the turnover when RB Sean Michaels took off eighty-three yards eventually being dragged down at the six yard line. On the very next play, Michaels would score. PAT good. Lake Havasu 7 Millennium 0. On the ensuing possession, Millennium goes on a thirteen play sixty-five yard drive that culminates in a six yard TD run by junior Akio Lloyd. The remainder of the quarter and the first half sees the teams exchange punts as both Ds controlled the other team's O. A punt is recovered by Millennium after hitting a Havasu player. This leads to Millennium moving the ball into Havasu territory and eventually kicking a thirty-two yard field goal to end the first half with Millennium up 10-7.
The second half begins with Havasu receiving the ball and after a nice return, moving it right down the field on the Tigers. The option with QB Ryan Vizzard leads an all run drive on the Millennium D that eventually ends with a nine yard TD run by Michaels. PAT good Lake Havasu 14 Millennium 10. Millennium then counters with a drive highlighted by a twenty-three yard pass completion to Aaron Gentry and a nine yard TD run by Akio Llold. Score 17 to 14 Millennium. Lake Havasu looks to pick up where they left off on the previous drive running the ball right at the Tiger D but the drive ends as does the Knights momentum for the evening when QB Ryan Vizzard fumbles the ball to Tiger DL Adam LaMasters late in the third quarter. The fourth quarter sees Millennium score two more times first on a twelve yard pass from QB Kirtus Brais to TE Dusty Willhite. Havasu gets in Millennium territory once more but is stopped on 4th and 1. A few minutes later the second and final score for Millennium and the game takes place when Jermmel Galloway scampers for a twenty-five yard score. Eventually this makes the final score 30 to 14 Millennium.
Bottom Line: Millennium got it done. Despite what seemed to be an injured Gentry, lots of penalties and inconsistency stopping the Havasu run the #2 Tigers did what they needed to do to stay undefeated.
Game Balls: With Gentry getting limited touches tonight QB Kirtus Brais, RB Akio Lloyd and TE Dusty Willhite picked up enough offensive slack to help the Tigers get the win.
