Friday Night Phenoms

Who Stood out in 1st Round Playoff Action?

Here is this week's version of Friday Night Phenoms from Thursday. Because of Veteran's Day, all games were played and Thursday night and I don't like the comparisons of football to war but there were some great battles and the following "soldiers" played well enough to get their team to the 2nd round.

We'll start with QBs where Greenway's Nathan Hodges was spectacular is the Demon's win over Havasu. He completed 11 of 19 passes and threw for 319 yards and 3 TDs. Deer Valley QB Tyler Hasler gets his 1st mention on our phenoms list, he was 10 of 15 for 221 and 2 TDs in their win over Central. Four of Hasler's passes went to WR Mike Brooks who had 134 yards and 2 TDs. RB Austin Gaysue also was a major contributor in the win as he went for 224 yards and 3 TDs.

On to running backs were we had our fair share of standout performances. North Canyon's Sherrod Austin continued to shine as he rushed for 178 yards and 1 score on 14 carries. McClintock RB Devin Richardson ran for 187 yards and a TD in the Chargers win over Pinnacle. Maryvale's Ronald Huckaby was effective on the ground and in the air. He ran for 111 yards and 2 TDs and also threw a 41 yard TD pass in the Panther's win over Highland.

And as a former offensive linemen I will give props to the big guys up front. The Mingus OL paved the way for 427 yards rushing on 49 attempts and the Arcadia OL blocked well enough to make room for RBs Chip Sivak and Alec McDuffy to rush for 273 and 177 yards respectively. The duo also combined for 5 TDs.

This week's games all move back to Friday and I would like to encourage everyone to get out Friday night and support high school football.
